Safety Tips & Measures
Electricity is an essential need. A willing and efficient slave, it can also become an unforgiving and fatal master. When parents are careless, it is children that suffer most because they have little understanding of what electricity can do both beneficially as well as harmfully. Electric shock can kill just as efficiently as electricity can work. Precautions are therefore necessary. For this knowledge of electrical safety is of prime importance. Overhead power lines, which are located high off the ground for safety, have no insulation and can carry more than 500,000 volts. Substations and transformers contain "live" parts that are dangerous to contact. Underground power lines are well-insulated, but a shovel can damage them and create a shock hazard.Additionally, there are many electrical or gas safety hazards in your home or in your workplace. Learn how you can stay safe and help avoid hazardous situations by following the links above.
Electricity always seeks the shortest path to the ground. It tries to find a conductor, or something that it can pass through to get to the ground, like metal, wet wood or water. Your body is about 70% water, so that makes you a good conductor, too. For example, if you touch an energized bare wire or faulty appliance while your feet are touching the ground, electricity will automatically pass through you to the ground, causing a harmful, or even fatal shock.
How much is too much?
It doesn't take much to get hurt or killed from even a small amount of electricity. A 7.5 watt Christmas tree bulb can kill you in a fraction of a second if it passes through your chest. So the best thing you can do is be aware of the dangers of electricity and learn how to avoid them.
As we all of know, electricity is used in almost all spheres of our daily life. Many people do not know the exact repercussion of misuse of electric power. It is also note worthy to point out that certain information like proper lighting of your rooms, conservation, dos and donts need be known to the public for saving power as well as for proper use of electricity.
All the lines in APCPDCL are periodically inspected and rectifications such as replacing of leaning poles, damaged conductors to minimize the outages of 33KV and 11KV lines.Safety measures are taken and the following works are being carried out regularly.
1. Insertion of middle poles in loose spans.
2. Replacement of damaged poles.
3. Rectification of Stay sets.
4. Replacement of damaged conductor
5. Restringing of loose spans.
